Modern transportation today encounters great challenges in safety, mobility, environment, and space. Vehicle to Everything (V2X), the umbrella term including vehicle to vehicle (V2V), vehicle to infrastructure (V2I), vehicle to pedestrian (V2P), vehicle to cloud (V2C), vehicle to sensor (V2S), etc., will be a game changer for modern transportation. In this talk, we brief a few major challenges of V2X wireless communication systems and the 5G New Radio (NR) based C-V2X. Then we introduce our enhanced C-V2X medium access solutions to achieve higher reliability and scalability, and a new communication technology we recently developed to allow concurrent, collision-free transmissions. Hope they inspire more research efforts and advances, contributing to the new era of V2X-enabled Intelligent Transportation.
Lin Cai received her M.A.Sc. and PhD degrees (awarded Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Studies) in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada, in 2002 and 2005, respectively. Since 2005, she has been with the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Victoria, and she is currently a Professor. She is an NSERC E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellow and an IEEE Fellow. In 2020, she was elected as a Member of the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. Her research interests span several areas in communications and networking, with a focus on network protocol and architecture design supporting emerging multimedia traffic and Internet of Things.
